TU.2.C || The Role of Industry in Sustainable Supply Chains

Jaeger, Florian Ansgar; Saling, Peter; Dencic, Ivana; Rehl, Torsten; Steidle, Rebecca; Wang, Jing; Létinois, Ulla

The reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions is of high importance for the society and for industry as well. Companies have an increasing interest in understanding and reducing the GHG emissions of their supply chains, therefore their product carbon footprint (PCF). Beside serious gaps in such PCF data within companies and in LCA databases, there is still missing experience and knowledge on how to prepare consistently the data and how to exchange them. Based on exemplary cases, we present and discuss key requirements such as data formats, data quality, confidentiality concerns and comparability issues of PCF data. We will address the question how to create mutual benefits and motivate suppliers to provide their process data or emission factors and how those data can be used by companies. We will scope potential solutions and match our requirements to fulfill the needs of industry for different purposes. Doing so, we aim to contribute practical recommendations to ongoing initiatives and systems that work on enabling PCF-exchange along supply chains.
